About Us
The organization contains a group of University of Minnesota dental students whose mission is to pursue a deeper understanding of oral medicine, radiology, and pathology. Potential topics of discussion include common oral mucosal diseases, jaw lesions, clinical presentation and diagnosis of oral premalignant lesions and oral cancer, diagnosis of rare diseases, and dental management of patients with complex systemic and medically compromised conditions. Discussion will focus on clinical and radiographic presentations, how to come up with clinical and radiographic differential diagnosis, what will do for a final diagnosis including lab tests, biopsy techniques and finally treatment options for some conditions. We will also discuss career options including academics and private practice specializing in oral medicine, oral radiology and oral pathology. The organization will meet to discuss the three specialties including the application process, life of a resident, and each career as a whole. The group will invite residents, faculty, and other relevant speakers to present information within the scope of the respective specialties. The goal of the organization is to increase knowledge regarding best practices, serve as a resource to students interested in pursuing OMRP as a career, and promote insightful dialogue between students and faculty.
