About Us
Continuing the legacy of Sensei Robert Fusaro, the Traditional Karate-Do Academy at UMN teaches traditional Shotokan karate from the foundations of Master Hidetaka Nishiyama. The club is affiliated with the American Amateur Karate Federation (AAKF), Nishiyama’s national karate organization founded in 1979. TKA at UMN provides a safe and welcoming environment for students of all levels to learn and practice. Along with learning karate techniques and self-defense skills, members will develop confidence, self discipline, and increased awareness of mind-body connection. In additional to multiple trainings a week, belt testing is held every three months, and members have opportunities to participate in seminars and tournaments throughout the year
