Mission
The Aging Studies Interdisciplinary Group (ASIG) is a collaborative organization for graduate, professional, and undergraduate students studying aging in programs across the University. ASIG is student led and promotes the development of critical engagement across disciplines and explores diverse approaches to knowledge and inquiry related to aging education and research.

Together we:

Encourage thoughtful discussions about approaching issues around aging,
Explore different theoretical perspectives, methodological approaches, and changing conceptualizations of knowledge in aging,
Provide concrete opportunities for students to hone professional skills,
Focus on theoretical and pragmatic aspects of gerontology, and
Foster interdisciplinary communication and collaboration

This club is open to anyone, though most of our members are in chemistry-related majors such as chemistry, chemical engineering, and materials science. Our mission is to create a community within the Chemical Engineering field here at the University of Minnesota. American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is an international organization that promotes the art, science & practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe. The goal of the ASME Student Section at the UMN is to promote these same values as well as to provide a community for engineering students at the University of Minnesota.

ASME hosts social and professional development events throughout the year, which are open to all engineering students at the UMN. The student section also holds general meetings, section design competitions, volunteer opportunities, and more!

The Astronomy Club strives to build a community of students with an interest in astronomy and to promote awareness of astronomical events. In practice, members gather for game nights, astronomy trivia, professor talks, space presentations, stargazing nights, and outreach events. For astro majors, it is a great way to meet other astro majors, and for other majors, it's a great way to get your astronomy fix! We know being an astro nerd and being an astro major don't always go hand-in-hand, so we gladly welcome students from all across the university to talk about space. The Black Graduate Collective (BGC) was established to combat isolation and engage and support graduate and professional students of African descent. BGC works at a unique interface to bring professional and graduate students together through social networking events, community service, professional development workshops, and educational forums. BGC hopes these programs and opportunities create a space for students to express their stresses and accomplishments, engage in the community through service, and develop a strong network for professional support in their future careers.

CLARION (CLinician Administrator Relationship Improvement OrganizatioN) is a student-driven, staff/faculty-advised committee housed within the Center for Health Interprofessional Programs (CHIP). CLARION creates and conducts co-curricular, interprofessional experiences for health professional students based upon the Institute of Medicine’s report “Six Aims for a New Healthcare System.”

CLARION focuses on the professional development of health professional students and includes lessons in leadership, teamwork, communication, analytical reasoning, conflict-resolution, and business practices. Participation in CLARION leads students to a more sophisticated understanding of the healthcare system in which they will practice.

The organizational structure of the CLARION student board models the type of interprofessional equality and collaborative leadership which will be needed to effectively solve the current healthcare system challenges. The interactions which occur among students lead to critical learnings; the most prominent being that many fundamental biases about other professions are firmly rooted before students enter the health professions workplace. Hence, the primary goals of the organization are for participants to develop an understanding and appreciation of the skills that each profession brings to the healthcare team and to develop positive relationships which will extend into their professional careers.
