The Aging Studies Interdisciplinary Group (ASIG) is a collaborative organization for graduate, professional, and undergraduate students studying aging in programs across the University. ASIG is student led and promotes the development of critical engagement across disciplines and explores diverse approaches to knowledge and inquiry related to aging education and research.

Together we:

Encourage thoughtful discussions about approaching issues around aging,
Explore different theoretical perspectives, methodological approaches, and changing conceptualizations of knowledge in aging,
Provide concrete opportunities for students to hone professional skills,
Focus on theoretical and pragmatic aspects of gerontology, and
Foster interdisciplinary communication and collaboration

To join ASIG, please email the Center for Healthy Aging and Innovation at CHAI@umn.edu, and you will be added to the ASIG email list- which will provide event updates and other important information!

American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is an international organization that promotes the art, science & practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe. The goal of the ASME Student Section at the UMN is to promote these same values as well as to provide a community for engineering students at the University of Minnesota.

ASME hosts social and professional development events throughout the year, which are open to all engineering students at the UMN. The student section also holds general meetings, section design competitions, volunteer opportunities, and more!

App Developers Club is for students who are interested in all aspects of developing. The Applied Plant Sciences Graduate Student Association works to bring together students in the Applied Plant Science (APS) graduate program through social activity as well as through service and outreach events with the larger community of the Twin Cities and Minnesota. The Arts and Medicine group is a place for medical students and other health professionals to engage with and learn about written, 2D, and performance media from/with their classmates in medicine, and from professionals who have found means of bringing their art into the medical sphere. The Astronomy Club strives to build a community of students with an interest in astronomy and to promote awareness of astronomical events. In practice, members gather for game nights, astronomy trivia, professor talks, space presentations, stargazing nights, and outreach events. For astro majors, it is a great way to meet other astro majors, and for other majors, it's a great way to get your astronomy fix! We know being an astro nerd and being an astro major don't always go hand-in-hand, so we gladly welcome students from all across the university to talk about space. The Asylum Law Project exists to provide a meaningful public interest opportunity for law students to provide pro bono legal assistance to organizations that work in the field of Asylum and/or Immigration Law. The Asylum Law Project fills a substantial need for legal assistance to immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers who seldom have access to competent legal representation. The Asylum Law Project allows first-year law students to gain experience in various aspects of the field of Immigration/Asylum Law. The Asylum Law Project strives to increase awareness regarding the struggles faced by immigrants and asylum seekers to both the UMN Law Student community, and the broader Minnesota community. The Asylum Law Project will endeavor to strengthen and support UMN Law Students in their journeys to become effective legal advocates.

ALP is an organization maintained by first-year law students in order to serve first-year law students and L.L.M. students at the University of Minnesota. After joining ALP, students share their trip placement interest and language skills with the ALP board. The board then matches those criteria with the needs of participating organizations. Participants volunteer on week-long service trips over the Winter or Spring Breaks.

The Black Graduate Collective (BGC) was established to combat isolation and engage and support graduate and professional students of African descent. BGC works at a unique interface to bring professional and graduate students together through social networking events, community service, professional development workshops, and educational forums. BGC hopes these programs and opportunities create a space for students to express their stresses and accomplishments, engage in the community through service, and develop a strong network for professional support in their future careers.
While focused on Black graduate and professional students across all programs and backgrounds, BGC welcomes all students dedicated to its vision and goals. Calling undergraduate students interested in improving and fostering conversation between students, faculty, organizations, and staff in CFANS to be a part of the CFANS Undergraduate Student Board. We host five meetings per semester where we plan events such as walking in the homecoming parade, Borealis Night of Excellence, and Networking Night. We also discuss CFANS-related topics such as talking with some of the designers for the new student center and introducing our board members to new CFANS staff and faculty. CLARION (CLinician Administrator Relationship Improvement OrganizatioN) is a student-driven, staff/faculty-advised committee housed within the Center for Health Interprofessional Programs (CHIP). CLARION creates and conducts co-curricular, interprofessional experiences for health professional students based upon the Institute of Medicine’s report “Six Aims for a New Healthcare System.”

CLARION focuses on the professional development of health professional students and includes lessons in leadership, teamwork, communication, analytical reasoning, conflict-resolution, and business practices. Participation in CLARION leads students to a more sophisticated understanding of the healthcare system in which they will practice.

The organizational structure of the CLARION student board models the type of interprofessional equality and collaborative leadership which will be needed to effectively solve the current healthcare system challenges. The interactions which occur among students lead to critical learnings; the most prominent being that many fundamental biases about other professions are firmly rooted before students enter the health professions workplace. Hence, the primary goals of the organization are for participants to develop an understanding and appreciation of the skills that each profession brings to the healthcare team and to develop positive relationships which will extend into their professional careers.
