HaLLA exists to contribute to the University’s diverse community through the promotion of Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian languages and cultures and to make available a forum for the presentation of graduate student work within the Department of Spanish & Portuguese.
During our monthly HaLLA meetings, the Hispanic Linguistics students and faculty present their current work, completed or in progress, often in preparation for a conference or to gain feedback on a research project or idea. Plumb Bob is an honorary leadership society that has been at UMN since 1914. Our main objective is to plan, organize, and run each spring's CSE Week. During this time, there are many CSE celebratory events and other student group participants that Plumb Bob oversees. Moreover, Plumb Bob also hosts an event in the fall to promote student interaction with the many aspects of CSE and college academics. PASA is the student government which serves all students attending the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. We serve as a liaison between students and Humphrey administration. In addition, we host a variety of events including an annual winter banquet, orientation activities, and a variety of sponsored outings. As the official vehicle for the expression of student concerns and desires as they pertain to the Humphrey School, its mission, its environment, its faculty, its administrators, and its students. PASA provides student leadership to promote the well-being of the Humphrey School community. The Public Health Review is a graduate student-led, online, peer-reviewed, open-access public health journal that is published by the University of Minnesota Libraries. We publish two issues per year: in June and December. We provide students, alumni, and professionals from any discipline or affiliation the opportunity to publish public health-related material in a peer-reviewed journal. The affiliation with the University of Minnesota Libraries publishing arm allows articles submitted through this platform to be indexed and cited by other scholarly work.

The Public Health Review also has a podcast called Perspectives. Here, we bring to you a series of conversations on a wide variety of public health topics, providing you with perspectives on public health issues from the community, academic, and professional fields.

Queer Science organizes multidisciplinary STEM outreach events for queer and trans high school students in the Twin Cities and surrounding regions, with an expansive definition of "STEM." We host free events where young people interact with and work alongside trans and queer STEM-ists to explore and expand their passion for science. We seek queer and trans volunteers from all STEM-related disciplines, whether in academia, industry, government, etc. Our events are as diverse as our attendees, all with the goal of supporting queer and trans youth interested in STEM, and we focus on experiences participants likely wouldn't have in their high school classrooms. Events include:
Queer Science Day each fall and spring
Guest workshops with local schools, the MN Science Museum, etc.
Hosting 'office hours' for homework and application help (and some life advice)

Students in the University of Minnesota dance program created a student group called, Dance Production. The goal is to plan, create, and facilitate a one-day show that displays the many avenues of art that is present both on campus and in the twin cities. This spring semester, Dance Production is facilitating a multidisciplinary arts festival, which has been titled, Make: Magnify. This festival, scheduled for April 13, 2024, includes both student and community artists. These artists can be dancers, musicians, sculptors, painters, lighting designers, collagists, etc. For the festival, Dance Production is also planning on working with ASL interpreters, stage managers, and lighting designers to not only create a successful arts festival but to allow students the chances of gaining experience in working behind the scenes of an arts show as well.

We teach Traditional Japanese Karate as refined by Sensei Nishiyama, along with Shotoryu Goshinjutsu, the Self Defense system based on the Kata of Shotokan developed by our instructor, David Gimberline. Training in the Shotokan Karate Club allows students to receive the benefits of physical fitness, mental discipline, self-defense, and the challenge of collegiate competition.
